The Dirty Picture

The Dirty Picture is a 2011 Indian semi biographical, drama film inspired by the life of Silk Smitha, an actress noted for her erotic roles. The filmmakers, however, clarified that the story is not officially and literally based on Smitha alone, but also on many of her other Southern contemporaries like Nylon Nalini and Disco Shanti, and even resembles the distressing personal lives of other women in popular culture, including Hollywood actress and sex symbol Marilyn Monroe The film was directed by Milan Luthria and co-produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, after Ekta came up with the idea and asked screenwriter Rajat Aroraa to pen a story based on it.

The film opens with Reshma (Vidya Balan) running away from her house to Chennai, a day before her marriage. She tries her best to get a role in a film but is eventually insulted by the casting director for being unattractive and useless. The determined Reshma, however, goes to the film shoot to convince him again and spontaneously grabs the role of a side dancer. She instantly steps into the sequence, and dances with whips to erotic movements and expressions. Annoyed by this is the film's director, Abraham (Emraan Hashmi), who believes that his creative art of film-making should dominate the screen and not the display of erotic and sensual content. He edits out Reshma's entire dance sequence from the film. The film fails at the box office much to the dismay of the producer Selva Ganesh (Rajesh Sharma) who later meets Reshma to offer her a song in his upcoming film, and suggests that she should now be referred to as "Silk".

Reshma (Vidya Balan), a girl who had big dreams in her mind sets off in a journey that will lead her to vulgarity, betrayal and impure fame. Her career stars with being 'Silk' and ends when the 'Reshma' in her rises. Suryakant (Naseeruddin Shah), Suryakant (Tusshar Kapoor), two siblings were the two obstacles in her 'want to be' good life. Ibrahim (Emraan), who looked upon Silk as a vulgar, dramatic actress and personal enemy, finally finds that what she is doing is not intentional. Real Life V/S. Movie - the difference is shown in this film and by whom it's shown is late Silk Smitha.

Silk Smitha was a heartthrob of her time, not for her acting but her skin-show and sex-appeal.  Describing her life is nothing so important as she as totally washed out from many minds. But I would praise Director Milan Luthria's 'one step forward' thinking and make such a mind-blowing movie on Silk. I mean, Silk would have got amazed if she could watch the movie and realize how interesting her life was to many people.

Vidya Balan as Reshma/Silk
Naseeruddin Shah as Suryakanth
Emraan Hashmi as Ibraham
Tusshar Kapoor as Ramakanth (Suryakanth's brother)

Shivani Tanksale as Radhika (Suryakanth's wife)
Arya Banerjee as Shakila

The Dirty Picture is the best movie of this year so far as it has every ingredient perfect in it. From Story to script to dialogs to performances - everything is just fantastic. Even the Sex-quotient is very high and vulgarism is over the top, still this movie shines for his genuineness and strength in plot and lead actors. Moreover, This movie is a grand success for it's three elements "Entertainment, entertainment and entertainment". Finally I would state that, If you skip "The Dirty Picture", it will be one of the biggest mistakes you've ever made. Please, watch it! P.S. - This movie is 'Strictly', not for kids and under-ages.
